Getting To The Bunker

CONTACT is run at "RGHQ-5.1" an officially decommissioned underground nuclear bunker, which is now a museum deep beneath a 3,000 acre farm, located to the north east of London near Brentwood in Essex. It is accessed from the A128 Chipping Ongar to Brentwood road, just north of Kelvedon Hatch. For SatNav system owners, use either the Bunker's postcode or its coordinates:

From the M25 exit at junction 27 and turn north on to the M11.

Exit the M11 at Junction 7 and turn right (east) on to the A414 to Chipping Ongar.

Turn right (south) on to the A128 Chipping Ongar to Brentwood road, following the signs for Kelvedon Hatch.

Follow the brown tourist signs for the Secret Nuclear Bunker. The main entrance is on the south side of the A128 road. Note that the entrance way turns immediately left as you come off the A128.

There is a gate, if closed, open and close it after you have passed through.

Proceed along this narrow road, passing Dragon's Lair Airsoft & Paintball site to your right by the woods, and continue until you come to the Bunker's public car park. Drive slowly as there are members of the public, deer and other wild life in this area.

Go straight across this and continue along what is now a track. Please take care as visitors walk from the exit of the Bunker back to the car park via this route. You may need to move and replace a bollard to gain access.

You will come to a cross roads, at your left you will see a large double gate that leads through a cutting to the top tunnel entrance to the Bunker itself. Slightly ahead and to the right you will see a car parking area. Park and enter.

Ensure that you close the gate behind you, as the cutting is used as an animal petting area, and is the main public exit from the Bunker. The entrance is overhung with vegetation, enter and proceed along the tunnel. At the end of the tunnel there is a steel door set into the main wall, go through and keep to the left. Pass through the swing doors and take the next left hand turning and go into the Bunker's canteen.

Ask the member of staff behind the counter as to where you can find The Fight School. Upon arrival introduce yourself, then unload your car, and park it back in the main public car park or as directed.
